Oak View Christmas Tree Lighting and Seasonal Events The Oak View Civic Council is sponsoring the lighting of the Christmas tree on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 6:30 PM in the Dahl’s Market parking lot in Oak View. The seventh annual Oak View tree lighting of the huge tree that sits between Rabobank and Greg Rents will highlight an evening of music, food, fun, gifts for the kids and of course a visit by Santa. All residents and businesses of Ojai Valley are invited to attend this free event. Tim Frantz and daughters of Mountain Dog Music Recording Studio will be the headliner who will lead the crowd in Christmas carols. The Oak View Civic Council members will be preparing and selling hot dogs and chips for $2.00; bottled water may be purchased for $1.00. Cookies, hot chocolate and apple cider will be available at no charge. Santa will of course be the center of attention as he listens to wishes and gives a gift to children with the assistance of his helpers Miss Oak View and her court. Scout Troop 503 will also be assisting Santa with programs and candy canes for everyone. Sometime before 7:30 PM the crowd will be hushed and the focus will be on the giant tree across the street. Civic Council members, as well as other volunteers, will see their efforts in decorating the tree on Sunday, November 23 rewarded when the light switch is activated and the tree glows from top to bottom. Greg Webster, of Greg Rents, contributed his large equipment boom to allow the volunteers to decorate the tree. Kim Armstrong, Citizen of the Year in 2007, will be visiting the merchants prior to the event and sharing news about the tree lighting and other Council activities. She will also be promoting the “LIGHT UP OUR TOWN” business decorating contest, sponsored by the Oak View Beautification Team. Businesses are encouraged to decorate the outside of their business to allow the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation members to judge and declare the winner on December 15th. The Oak View Civic Council thanks Dahls Market for use of the parking lot, Rabobank for support in getting the tree decorated and for also covering the cost of electricity, the Oak View Merchants, and all those who assist in making this a fun filled evening.
